Flute Teacher Suzanne Farber
Suzanne Farber
Suzy Farber is a flute and piccolo player in the U.S Marine Corps Band. Born and raised in Long Island, New York, she studied with Lauren Ausubel for 7 years and played in ensembles such as the Long Island Youth Orchestra and the New York All-State Wind Ensemble. In 2011, she was awarded the Harold Bennett Memorial First prize in the Long Island Flute Club competition. She went on to study performance with Kate Lukas at Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music on the Premier Young Artist Award scholarship. After studying at IU for two years, she went on to study music therapy at SUNY New Paltz. It was during this time that she won the audition to be in the U.S Marine Corps Band, a profession which she went on to pursue after her junior year of college. During her time at the Naval School of Music, she earned a playing proficiency score that qualified her to be an instructor at the school. Other teachers she has briefly studied with include Janet Arms, Judith Mendenhall, Laurel Zucker and Rose Lombardo.
Suzy's teaching style is versatile; each student receives a lesson plan personally tailored to them depending on what personal goals they wish to accomplish. Above all, there is a heavy emphasis on positivity, focusing on thoroughly enjoying music rather than being a "perfect" musician.
