Jon Roberts

Jon Roberts is a Portland based pianist and trumpet player. He went to Berklee College of Music for Trumpet and Film scoring, and has a Bachelor's degree in Jazz piano performance from Portland State University. He has been a professional studio musician and performer for over a decade, working and touring with a variety of jazz, orchestral and pop groups in Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Portland, and working as a cruise boat musician and ballet accompanist for OBT, TPB and NW Dance project.

His current active groups include the NW hip-hop band Eastern Sunz and his own  jazz quartet. He is accepting students at all levels and abilities, but is especially interested in teaching students who show an interest in jazz, pop, or other forms of improvised, group music.

Trumpet Teacher Justin Copeland

Justin Copeland is a trumpet player, pianist, composer and music educator based out of the Central Valley city of Fresno, California. He has been performing extensively as a professional musician for the past 10+ years all over the United States and other parts of the world and currently resides in the Portland, OR area. Justin earned his B.A. in Music Performance from California State University, Fresno (Fresno State) in 2011, his M.M. in Jazz Studies from Northwestern University in 2013 and he is currently finishing a D.M.A. in jazz studies from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. Justin has had the pleasure of sharing the bandstand with many world-renowned musicians including saxophonist Victor Goines, vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater, saxophonist Branford Marsalis, singer/songwriter Solange Knowles and vocalist Kurt Elling. In 2017, Justin had the distinct fortune of winning 1st place in the Yamaha Jazz Division of the National Trumpet Competition, as well as being one of the five finalists selected to compete in the biennial Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Competition. 

In addition to performing, Justin is quite active as an educator. His teaching efforts have brought him to such places like Havana, Cuba in 2016 and at jazz festivals like the 2018 Northeastern State University Jazz Festival where he served as a guest artist, adjudicator and clinician.
