Derrick Stauffer

Derrick Stauffer is a freelance trumpet player, guitarist, educator, songwriter and composer in New York City. He has been a student of the trumpet for almost 30 years and former teachers include Michael Sachs (Cleveland Orchestra), Raymond Mase (formerly of the American Brass Quintet), Tom Booth (formerly of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra), Larry Black and James Thompson (both formerly of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra). Derrick did his graduate studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music as well undergraduate work at Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University. 

Since he fell in love with the trumpet at age 10 Derrick has played professionally throughout Atlanta, Dallas, Cleveland, Aspen, Los Angeles and New York, including gigs with orchestras, chamber ensembles, jazz bands, indie rock bands, blues bands and brass quintets. Derrick has also written and arranged music for indie rock bands, managed those bands and contributed guitar, bass, trumpet and vocals to the live and recorded performances. 

During these years of performing, Derrick has also consistently maintained a teaching studio of trumpet students. He has taught the trumpet to people of all ages and skill levels, in both individual and group settings as well as beginning guitar lessons in addition to coaching students in music theory.
